Swim Test

Event: Troop 582 Swim Test
Date/Time: Sunday, June 9th @ 5pm
Location: See email that was sent out to the troop for the location address (contact Scoutmaster if you didn’t receive the email)

The BSA swim test is a classification test (Swimmer, Beginner, Non-swimmer) to understand a scouts level of swimming ability so that all scouts can participate in aquatic activities according to their abilities. Details of the swim test requirements can be found in the Scout handbook and are shown at the bottom of this post.

Scouts and adults who are going to summer camp should plan on attending this event and taking the swim test. Scouts & adults who are not able to attend this event will have the opportunity to take the test at summer camp. Please reply if you are not able to attend.

Swimmer
– Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
– Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl
– Swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke.
– The 100 yards must be completed without stops and must include at least one sharp turn.
– Rest by floating…Long enough to demonstrate ability to rest when exhausted.
Beginner
– Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
– Swim 25 feet on the surface.
– Stop, turn, and resume swimming back to the starting place.
Non-Swimmer
– Did not complete either of the swimming tests.
